After dinner your auto rickshaw driver will pick you up and whisk you around the city for 1.5 hours. In the evenings the city really comes alive. It is amazing what you can see from the back of an auto and there is no better way to get a feel for the Royal City that is Mysore. There are 13 palaces, countless temples, parks and statues larger than life, it really is a beautiful city. All this combined with cows wandering the streets, people everywhere you look, more motorbikes and scooters than you can imagine weaving in and out amongst the cars, it is endlessly fascinating to watch the world go by as you cruise around the city. This will be a great introduction to beautiful Mysore.

Your Auto Rickshaw driver will get you back to your hotel by approximately 8.30pm

Day 2 – Saturday – One Day Workshop

Let the creative process begin!

After breakfast meet your Auto driver for a fun trip to the workshop that will be yours for the day. Meet your Artisan and immediately you’ll start learning about your chosen craft.

First up we will have a quick safety brief and an introduction to the tools and techniques you’ll be using.

Silver jewellery – you will be making a ring today! Our master jeweller Shyam will guide you through the process of heat treating, shaping, soldering and stamping a design on your silver ring. At the end your ring will be weighed – there is an additional cost for the silver which is approximately 80 rupees per gram. The average ring weighs around 6 grams. (equivalent to approx AUD10)

Your Auto driver will be on hand to take you back to your hotel where you have the evening free to explore Mysore. Ask us for tips on things to see and do.

Days 3 – Sunday – Departure Day

Check out this morning and after a leisurely breakfast we’ll head off around 10.30am.

No visit to Mysore is complete without a tour of the palace and our guide Samir will be there to meet you. He has a wealth of knowledge he enjoys sharing. He has been conducting tours at the palace for over ten years now, and learned from his father who has been a guide there for more than 30 years! Prepare to be wowed by the opulence and the rich history that lies within the palace walls.

After the tour we’ll take you back to the hotel to collect your luggage. We can arrange a transfer to Bangalore for you, or a drop to the rail or bus station if you need (additional cost)

If you can stretch your stay until the evening or add an extra night, we highly recommend a visit to the Palace at 7pm for the weekly illumination. 97,000 incandescent light bulbs highlight the outline of the Palace (you will have seen this one your tour this morning) – this sight has a real wow factor and not to be missed if you can avoid it! We can help you with extending your trip, or making these arrangements. We can also offer suggestions of how to fill your afternoon should you decide to stay and return to the Palace.

EXTRA NIGHTS? MORE ACTIVITIES?
We can provide pre and post accommodation and you can pre book as many extra activities as you like!  Also choose from our range of Day Tours and Overnight Adventures to add that something extra to your holiday.

Day 1 – Sunday – Arrival day

You will be met at Bangalore Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Mysore.

During the three hour drive you will have your first introduction to the somewhat ordered chaos that are the roads of India.  You’ll be amazed as you watch bikes, scooters, cars, trucks, buses and more weave their way along the road with seemingly no lanes and no road rules!  The cacophony of constantly beeping horns as the locals communicate with each other means your road trip to Mysore will be an experience to remember and you can expect to see many wonderful and interesting things along the way.  Welcome to India!

Meet your Tour Director and group at 5pm for a welcome briefing and dinner.

Following dinner you will be taken to the Palace for the weekly illumination.  The palace is lit with 97,000 incandescent light globes creating a dramatic sight against the backdrop of the dark night sky.   This is optional and well worth it even if you are jet lagged!  If you are staying on any extra days after the tour you’ll get another chance, but this only happens on Sundays and National Days and we recommend you don’t miss it.  It seems all of Mysore are in the Palace grounds waiting and the collective audible sigh when the lights go on is a pleasure in itself.

Your Auto Rickshaw driver will get you back to your hotel by approximately 8.30pm

Day 2  – Monday – Orientation Day

Let the creative process begin! After breakfast meet your Auto driver for an interesting trip to the workshop that will be yours for the next 5 days.  Meet your Artisan to discuss your project – let the learning process begin!

To get things off on the right foot we’ll get the safety brief out of the way today too. Your Auto driver will be on hand to take you back to your hotel where you have free time until 5.30pm.  Then he’ll pick you up and off you go on a city tour – it is amazing what you can see from the back of an auto and there is no better way to get a feel for the Royal City that is Mysore.

Days 3 – Tuesday – Artists at Work

Let’s get to it.   Project time.  You’ve taken this time out from your day to day life to give yourself time to work in a creative space.  We’ll do everything we can to support that journey.

After breakfast meet your Auto driver and head to the workshop around 8am.  This day will be more or less on repeat for the next four days as you spend 3-4 hours each day working on your dream project.  You’ll be learning from an artisan that has learned their craft from previous generations.  In some cases the art form has been in the family for six or more generations – that’s what we call a Master Craftsman!

After you finish your session your auto driver, who is by now your friend, will be waiting to whisk you back to your hotel where you have free time until 2.30.
No visit to Mysore is complete without a tour of the palace.  You’ll be picked up at 2.30 and meet our guide Samir at the palace.  He has a wealth of knowledge he enjoys sharing. He has been conducting tours at the palace for over ten years now, and learned from his father who has been a guide there for more than 30 years!  Prepare to be wowed by the opulence and the rich history that lies within the palace walls.

Day 4 – Wednesday – Artists at Work

By now you are getting into a bit of a rhythm and some days may seem the same but we promise you, in India, every day holds a surprise!

This evening you will be picked up at 6pm to head off to a Traditional Dinner & Cultural Show.  You’ll not only enjoy a delicious home cooked vegetarian meal, you’ll be entertained by dancers and tabla players – we won’t give it all away here. This will be an evening to remember.

Day 5 – Thursday – Artists at Work

We’ll pick you up in the morning as is our routine now, and take you to the workshop where your creative process continues! You’ll have a free afternoon and evening to explore Mysore, or fill in your time learning something else with one of our great activities!

Day 6 – Friday – Your masterpiece is complete and it’s time to say goodbye

It’s arrived.  Your last day in the workshop and by now you have completed 20 or more hours honing your skills in your chosen craft.  You are already planning your next project to start when you get back home and you’re feeling great about all you’ve achieved.

Today you’ll finish up your work and pack it up to take home.  Help will be available to arrange this.  Your Artisan will present you with a certificate of attendance, and join you for lunch.
